Abstract : This new disease in Taiwan was found in 1969. Cracks, with exudates, appear near fruit lenticels 10 days after infection; they become deep brown, stellate spots, 1-5 mm diam. and 2-3 mm in depth. Leaf lesions are angular, water soaked and dark brown, 1-4 mm diam., with the margin becoming rough and raised later. Severe infection causes fruit and leaf fall, and young branches can be infected. The cause is a bacterium with a monotrichous flagellum and an opt. temp. for growth of 28.30 deg C. Its physiological characteristics are given. Anacardium occidentale (cashew nut) is not infected.
