Abstract : Of several rates tested, 60 krad ionizing radiation gave the lowest percentage decay after mangoes had been stored at 30 deg C for 3 weeks. Sixty-seven per cent of control fruit spoiled compared with 55% of the irradiated fruit. Eating quality was not impaired by irradiation, but there was a significant difference in colour. Irradiated fruit had higher beta -carotene and ascorbic acid contents than control fruits.
