Mango flower induction: ethephon, potassium nitrate and cincturing.

Abstract : Ethephon (at rates of 175 and 250 p.p.m. weekly or fortnightly) gave inconsistent results and reduced yields in a trial at Bowen. Cincturing failed to improve flowering in cv. Kensington Pride over 2 years of trials at Bowen and Mareeba. Foliar applications of potassium nitrate did not improve flowering or yield of cinctured or uncinctured Kensington Pride trees over 2 years of trials at Mareeba. Of several cultivars tested, only Carabao gave a flowering response when cinctured and sprayed with potassium nitrate.
