Abstract : In field tests on the control of the cicadellid Amritodus atkinsoni, a severe pest of mango in India, 7 different insecticides were applied just after flowering and thereafter at intervals of 10 days (5 applications), with counts of insects 7 days after the last spray and fruit counts before and after treatment. All compounds significantly reduced the population, as compared with no treatment, but fenvalerate at 0.01% resulted in the smallest populations and also the smallest number of prematurely fallen fruits. The next most effective insecticides were bromophos-ethyl, carbaryl and Decis [deltamethrin], while phosalone, cypermethrin and permethrin had little effect.
