Abstract : In Florida, heated water was tested as an alternative method of quarantine treatment to ethylene dibromide fumigation for the control of infestations of eggs and 1-2-day-old larvae of Anastrepha suspensa in mangoes. Submersion of fruits of sizes 8-12 (881-478 g) belonging to cv. Keitt for 45-65 min in water at 46.1-46.7°C resulted in the recovery of only 7 pupae from an estimated 49?026 immature individuals; 10 pupae from an estimated initial population of 37?896 immature individuals were recovered from size-12 (469 g) fruits of cv. Tommy Atkins similarly treated. The treatment produced no visible injury to the fruit.
