Aspects of calcium physiology of plants.

Abstract : The occurrence and visual symptoms of physiological disorders resulting from Ca deficiency in fruits and storage organs of plants including apples, pears, cherries, avocados, mangoes, tomatoes, Capsicum, water melons, groundnuts, carrots, parsnips, potatoes, chicory, endives, celery, Brassica spp., Phaseolus vulgaris and strawberries are described. Plant requirements, absorption and translocation problems, the role of Ca in senescence and fruit maturation, calmodulin and the regulation and metabolism of Ca, and Ca as a secondary messenger are discussed.
