Abstract : This paper is an attempt to decide on the selection of the most suitable variety of mango for processing in the Sudan Republic. The three major varieties, Kitchener, Alphonso and Abu Samaka were considered. Gross revenue per ha. of Abu Samaka (1), Kitchener (2), and Alphonso (3) were found to be pounds-sterling S1,525, pounds-sterling S1,350 and pounds-sterling S615, respectively. Pulp percentage of 1, 2 and 3 was 54, 42, and 48, respectively, while pulp yield per ha. was highest for 1 and least for 3. To increase the working days of the existing canneries, it is recommended to process 2 and not 3, this being a short-term solution. The long-term solution depends on the introduction of new varieties and the techno-economic evaluation of the present minor varieties.
