Floral biology of Alphonso, Goamankur and Kesar varieties of mango.

Abstract : The percentage of hermaphrodite flowers in all 3 varieties was greatest on the north side and least on the east side of the tree, and increased from the early flush to the midflush to the late flush. The average value was highest in Kesar (29.39%) and lowest in Alphonso (11.22%). Pollen viability was highest in Kesar (93.73%) followed by Alphonso (85.44%) and Goamankur (73.75%). The 3 varieties were not self-incompatible, but cross pollination increased fruit set and retention.
