Abstract : The causative role of malformins in mango floral malformation is suggested. Eleven different treatments were applied to 6- to 7-year-old trees of the cv. Dashehari. The treatments were applied 3 times at 10-day intervals to healthy and malformed panicles starting when the panicles were 4-6 cm long (mid-February). Glutathione at 2240 p.p.m., ascorbic acid at 2110 p.p.m. or AgNO3 at 600 p.p.m. caused the disappearance of malformins from malformed panicles which then fruited like healthy controls. Since the presence of malformins in malformed panicles also has an adverse effect on fruiting of normal panicles, it is suggested that whole trees be treated with antimalformins.
