Abstract : In studies on extending the stone-grafting period, fresh stones of the cv. Alphonso were washed, dried and either sown immediately or stored in polyethylene bags (5 different treatments) or on an open cement floor for up to 100 days. Five seed lots were stored at room temperature and one at 8°C. One hundred seeds were removed from each treatment at 10-day intervals and sown in polyethylene bags. Seed viability before storage was 75%. The best germination after 90 days (40%) was obtained with stones in polyethylene bags + charcoal stored at 25°. Germination in stones stored on the cement floor declined to 12% at 60 days, and stones stored in polyethylene bags at 8° failed to germinate.
