Abstract : Latoia lepida [Parasa lepida], hitherto unrecorded from central and northern India, was observed damaging young leaves of mango in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India, in 1975. Younger plants suffered most with up to 52.6% of the leaves being damaged. The egg, larva, pupa and adult are described. Laboratory studies at 6-28.7°C revealed that the average incubation period was 2.2 days, the larval period 24.8 days, the prepupal period 2.4 days and the pupal period 2-4 days. There were 5 generations a year, 4 of these between July and December. The pest hibernated as a pupa in the 5th generation, taking 228 days to complete the life cycle. Adults emerged at the end of June or beginning of July and lived for an average of 4.3 days.
