Abstract : Ethyl acetate extracts of culture filtrates of F. moniliforme [Gibberella fujikuroi] var. subglutinans, a fungus frequently isolated from malformed mango tissues, caused curling and stunting of maize and pea roots and formation of flap-like growth at the tip of wheat roots. The extracts did not cause malformations in bean [Phaseolus vulgaris] plants reportedly induced by malformin, and also failed to induce malformation in mango seedlings and trees. The plant growth substances GA3, NAA, kinetin and reduced glutathion did not produce the responses induced by the extracts, and neither did culture filtrates of F. oxysporum, G. fujikuroi var. intermedium and Aspergillus flavus.
