Abstract : Scions were obtained from the tips of shoots that had produced malformed inflorescences the previous season and from healthy shoots of adult mango trees. Veneer grafting was carried out on healthy rootstocks. After the establishment of union, the diseased scion that would have produced a malformed inflorescence in the on-year produced symptoms typical of vegetative malformation, and plants derived from such grafts produced malformed panicles, thus providing the first experimental proof that vegetative and floral malformation are 2 difference expressions of the same disease. The experiment also helps explain the thus far obscure mode of spread of the disease.
