Abstract : Almost all the one-year-old growth was pruned from mature mango trees. In 18-year-old trees of the cvs Banganapalli and Suvarnarekha dormant buds then produced shoots of sufficient length to bear flower panicles and normal fruit in the following season. However, these shoots were less than half the length of shoots produced on unpruned trees. In 35-year-old Alphonso and Totapuri trees the new shoots were all vegetative, and in the cvs Bombay Green and Langra the dormant buds did not sprout at all.
