Abstract : In 3 years of laboratory and field studies, the chitin inhibitors Alsystin WP [triflumuron], Dimilin WP [diflubenzuron] and Nomolt SC [teflubenzuron] prevented development of Carpophilus larvae in date fruits of cultivars Hadrawi, Deklet-Nur and Majhul. Damage caused by the beetles in untreated plantations in the Jordan and Bet-Shean Valleys averaged 4% in the cv. Hadrawi, but depended on the proximity of other more sensitive date cultivars and of banana and mango cultivars which serve as sources of infestation. Damage caused by the beetles in Jordan Valley plantations distant from such sources of infestation and treated with Dimilin WP amounted to 0.5%.
