Abstract : The life cycle of the mango weevil [Sternochetus mangiferae] and the damage caused to mango fruits are described; sanitary and control measures are outlined. Any fallen fruits and their stones should be collected and buried in deep pits from Oct. until the end of harvest, especially during Jan. and Feb. Recommended chemical control measures, based on trial results, comprise: post-harvest spraying with parathion at 150 ml/100 litres water; pre-harvest spraying with fenvalerate at 30 ml/100 litres water before flowering, followed by a second application when the fruits are 15 mm in diameter; or spraying with prothiofos at 50 ml/100 litres water.
