Abstract : The population fluctuations of the cecidomyiids Erosomyia indica [E. mangiferae] and Dasineura amaramanjarae on mango were studied in Uttar Pradesh, India, in 1975. E. mangiferae first appeared on 9 January and remained active for 85 days. Initially the number of cecidomyiids that emerged was higher than the number of inflorescence buds appearing in the orchard and a number of females which were not able to lay eggs died. There were 3 peaks in the population of adults in mid-January, mid-February and early March. The population of E. mangiferae was highest in March. There was a positive correlation between temperature and emergence, which began in D. amaramanjarae on 21 February and continued for 36 days. The highest population was recorded on 8 March. Variations in the temperature and relative humidity affected the population of D. amaramanjarae; emergence was highest at 75°F and 60-82% RH. The effect of damage caused by the cecidomyiids on fruit loss was assessed.
