Abstract : A comparison was made of the growth substances present during the season of flower bud initiation in shoots of the regular bearing cv. Totapuri Red Small and in shoots of the biennial bearer cv. Dashehari in both its on and off years. In chromatograms of shoot extracts of both cvs there were 2 zones containing auxin-like substances (one tentatively identified as IAA) and a zone of growth inhibitor identified as abscisic acid. Both auxin and inhibitor levels were higher in flowering than in vegetative shoots. [For part VI see HcA 43, 3241.]
