Abstract : As a result of a survey in the State of Chiapas and other fruit-growing regions in Mexico, a list is given of the tephritids found in each locality and the species of fruit tree on which they were caught in McPhail traps. A total of 21 species belonging to 5 genera was collected, the great majority belonging to the genus Anastrepha. All species collected in the State of Veracruz were trapped on citrus, but most of those caught in Chiapas and the other localities were trapped on mango (on which A. obliqua and A. ludens were the most abundant), and Toxotrypana curvicauda was reared from pawpaw. A. acris, A. alveata, A. balloui, A. leptozona and A. montei are recorded for the first time in Mexico. The importance of the trapping results is discussed, with particular reference to the consequent extension to the distribution range of some species.
