Abstract : Fruit rot and stem canker of mango caused by Erwinia carotovora and E. herbicola are widespread and severely affect production. When trees are in the vegetative stage, under conditions unfavourable for disease development, both bacteria live as epiphytes on various plant organs. They are carried by insects (Ceratitis capitata, Antiteuchus tripterus and Anastrepha, Alabama, Aulacaspis and Azteca spp.), all of which settle on mango occasionally and may play a major role in spread. The cultivars Bocado, Aceite, Trementina, Amini, Trinidad, Julie, Irwin and Sensation were tolerant.
