Abstract : A survey of the insect pest complex of fruit orchards was conducted during 1975-1977 in valley and hill areas of Manipur, India, which have tropical and temperate climates, resp. Forty-nine pest species were identified, including the ahalarid Diaphorina citri on Citrus, the tephritid Dacus dorsalis [Bactrocera dorsalis] on mangoes, the curculionid Odoiporus longicollis on banana, the lymantriid Euproctis fraterna on guava, the aphids Myzus persicae on apple and Brachycaudus helichrysi on peach, the lasiocampid Malacosoma indicum on pear and the diaspidid Pseudaulaucaspis pentagona on plum. Observations on the distribution of the pests in Manipur, their economic status and period of activity during the year are given. It is concluded that the humid climate and stable temperatures found in both areas over the 3-year survey period determined the abundance of the pests on fruit crops.
