Abstract : To examine changes in free amino acid contents in mango (Mangifera indica) caused by Phomopsis mangiferae infection, surface sterilised fruits were inoculated and stored in sterilised polythene bags at room temp. Fruits were taken out every alternate day for amino acid analysis by circular and 2-dimensional ascending paper chromatography. Lysine and histidine disappeared after 6 d, leucine, isoleucine and alanine not detected on the 2nd day could be detected subsequently, while fluctuations occurred in the concn of phenylalanine, valine, glycine/serine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid and cystine. Possible causes are discussed.
