Organochlorine pesticide and PCB residues in plant foliage.

Abstract : Contamination by chlorinated insecticides, hexachlorobenzene and PCBs was studied in mango leaves which were collected from the field in Guinea, Mali, Ghana, Benin and Burkina Faso. Hexachlorobenzene and PCBs were found in only a few samples. A wide range of results was obtained for lindane and pp?-DDT, indicating local applications. The role of West Africa in the global circulation of these contaminants is discussed.
