Abstract : Changes in size, weight and physiological constituents were studied at different stages of growth in fruits of the cv. Dashehari with aborted and normal embryos. Fruits with aborted embryos were characterized by very poor growth in size and weight. Reducing sugar, TSS and catalase activity were significantly higher in fruits with aborted embryo while total acidity, ascorbic acid content and peroxidase activity were considerably decreased. The importance of embryo development for normal fruit growth is discussed.
