Abstract : Significant antiinflammatory activity in rats, and moderate antibacterial activity against Gram+ and Gram- organisms, and antifungal activity against Candida lunata and Trichophyton mentagrophytes were observed for the alcoholic extract of the seed kernel, validating the ethnic use of the kernel against minor cuts and burns. The presence of both antibacterial and antiinflammatory activities suggests a use in rheumatic diseases where bacterial invasion may be an etiological factor in causing inflammation.
