Socio-economic impact of subsidy for mango plantation in Konkan region of Maharashtra.

Abstract : Based on 99 mango orchards in the Konkan region of Maharashtra, an attempt is made to estimate the impact of subsidy an economic parameters; evaluate the impact of subsidy on the financial burden of mango growers; and measure the impact of subsidy on employment and income. It was found that the concessional rate of interest with the subsidy reduced the financial burden of farmers by 40%. Subsidies played a significant role in increasing employment, and the educational, economic and social status of farmers.
