New agricultural products for Queensland: a marketing perspective.

Abstract : Marketing information is brought together on 34 agricultural products viewed as having marketing prospects in Queensland, Australia. The products are also ranked according to their potential success in the market-place. A primary product is included if it has been noted in the media in either particularly glowing or detrimental terms. The agricultural products belong to the sub-sectors: animals, horticulture, legumes, industrial vegetable oils, essential oils, medicinal crops and insecticides. Production and marketing data are presented for: (1) rabbits, kangaroos, new cattle breeds, and goat meat, kid leather, cashmere and live exports; (2) asparagus, coconuts, dates, grapes, litchi, mangoes, vegetables, herbs and spices; (3) chickpeas, cowpeas, faba beans, fenugreek, lentils, mung beans, pigeon peas and winged beans (Psophocarpus tetragonolobus); (4) castor oil plants, crambe, guar and niger (Guizotia abyssinica); (5) cassia oil, eucalyptus, lemon grass oil and tea tree oil; (6) medicinal crops; and (7) neem (Azadirachta indica) and derris (rotenone).
