Abstract : Among the exotic fruits that have shown strong growth in the UK in recent years has been the mango. This article outlines the mango's history, the EC market, supply and demand, varieties and market segmentation, and the major constraints facing the mango trade. It is concluded that the mango market is on the threshold of 'taking off' and that there is much optimism and confidence in the trade about its market prospects. However, structural difficulties are evident and need to be tackled.
