Abstract : CA was not advantageous with citrus fruits and for grapes it had to be coupled with sulphur treatment to be of benefit. CO2 enrichment was advantageous with strawberries, raspberries, figs and particularly chestnuts. Controlled atmospheres were also of value in banana storage where elimination of atmospheric ethylene was essential, and good results were also obtained with persimmons, mangoes and avocados. Rose hips kept longer in CA but their L-ascorbic acid content was depressed.
