Influence of exogenous ethylene on the ripening of Harumanis mango.

Abstract : Harvested mangoes were treated with 0, 0.1 and 5 µl/litre ethylene at 25°C for 24 h. Ethylene at 5 µl/litre softened 92% of the fruits by the second day after treatment; first softening was later for the other treatments. There were no significant differences in the pH or total titratable acidity between the treatments at any given period after first softening. The fruits were sufficiently ripe for eating within 14 days of first softening.
