Abstract : In the introductory chapter of this book the nature and causes of postharvest deterioration are considered under the headings postharvest physiology of fruits and vegetables, nature of postharvest deterioration, factors influencing postharvest deterioration, aspects of forensic plant pathology, classification of disorders and classification of diseases and disease organisms. In the subsequent chapters diseases and disorders of citrus fruits, miscellaneous tropical and subtropical fruits (avocados, bananas, litchis, mangoes, pawpaws, passion fruits, persimmons, pineapples, pomegranates, sour sops and sweet sops and others), pome fruits, stone fruits, soft fruits and berries and melons and watermelons are covered. For each disease or disorder there is a colour photograph and information on the occurrence, symptoms, biology and control of the disease, and references and often diagrams of the pathogen are supplied. A glossary, lexicon, recommended storage conditions and an index are appended.
