Abstract : A study was made of the seasonal loss of dry matter and N, P and K from 2 trees each of the cvs Pairi and Hindi during 2 successive seasons. All the leaves that fell were collected at weekly intervals and analysed. Pairi trees lost 5 kg dry matter, 57 g N, 8 g P and 48 g K in 1970. In 1971 the figures were 7 kg, 78 g, 10 g and 66 g, respectively. For Hindi trees in 1970 the losses were 5 kg, 56 g, 8 g and 52 g, and in 1971, 4 kg, 44 g, 6 g and 41 g. In both cvs the greatest loss occurred in July to September. In Pairi there was also a noticeable high loss in March-April. The lowest loss in both occurred in winter (December to January). Fertilizer application prior to the chief loss periods is recommended.
