Inheritance of agriculturally important traits in mango.

Abstract : About 300 seedlings were collected from each of the open pollinated cultivars Palmer, Kent and Keitt. The distribution of different traits in seedlings derived by open pollination were analysed together with correlations between these traits. Although in general the trait distribution pattern was similar among the progenies 3 parents, some differences were noted. Some correlations among various traits which might be useful for future breeding were detected. It was concluded from both a ?-square test and an intraclass correlation coefficient that there was a specific female parent effect on both harvest season and fruit colour. A smaller effect was found on fruit taste and size, and no effect of the female parent tree was detected on the distribution of both the juvenile period and fertility.
