Abstract : In this review article on Anastrepha spp. in Jamaica, the occurrence, taxonomy, nomenclature, food preferences and control of A. mombinpraeoptans Sein and A. suspensa (Lw.) are described. It was confirmed in the field in 1971-73 that A. mombinpraoptans occurs on mango, guava, rose apple (Syzygium jambas) and several species of Spondias and that A. suspensa occurs on guava, pimento (Pimenta dioica), Syzygium jambas, S. malaccense and Terminalia catappa. It is suggested that these two species be known as the West Indian fruit-fly and the Greater Antillean fruit-fly, respectively.
