Delaying ripening by postharvest treatment of GA3 in mango.

Abstract : Mature hard-green fruits of the cultivar Dashehari, harvested on 19 June, were dipped for 5 minutes in solutions of GA3 at 100-600 mg/litre. The fruits, air-dried and packed into ventilated wooden cases lined with newspaper, were held at ambient temperature (38-42°C) for up to 9 days. The fruits were assessed for TSS, ascorbic acid, chlorophyll and reducing sugar contents, and for total acidity, total weight loss, enzyme (amylase and peroxidase) activity and percentage ripening. Maximum delay in ripening (3 days over the control) was obtained with GA3 at 200 mg/litre.
