Effect of metal compounds on the root systems of mango in nursery.

Abstract : Silver nitrate (0.5 mole), zinc sulphate, cupric sulphate or nickel chloride (each at 0.7 mole) was applied in solution to the soil surface of pot-grown seedlings as root pruning agents. The effects on plant height, trunk girth, leaf number, and different types of roots were assessed 60, 120 and 180 days after treatment. The data are tabulated. The highest number of fine roots was obtained with silver nitrate. Other treatments also increased the production of fine roots compared with the control.
