Abstract : Grafting on 5-, 10- or 15-day-old seedlings was carried out on several dates between 25 July and late Sep. The effect of the age (3.5-6.0 months) of the scion (cv. Dusheri) shoot was also tested. Five grafting methods were used; success was assessed 60 days after grafting. Grafting 10-day-old seedlings in the second half of Aug. gave the highest success rate (55% compared with only 14.8% obtained on 5-day-old seedlings grafted in late July). The use of 4.0- to 4.5-month-old scion shoots gave the highest success rates of 53.3-55.0% compared with only 13.3% with 6-month-old scion shoots. Of the grafting methods tested, splice, side or veneer grafting gave 57, 46 and 40% success, respectively, compared with only 24 and 27% with saddle and wedge grafting, respectively.
