Abstract : The development and implementation of a postharvest horticulture project in the ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) are described. Initial activities included short-term training in Australia, the creation of the Postharvest Horticulture Training and Research Centre at the University of the Philippines at Los Baņos, and the establishment throughout ASEAN of well-equipped laboratories and packing house facilities for research purposes. The results are presented of the following research and development projects: Packing house operations and quality control; Mango and rambutan; Extension activities; Fruit and vegetable containers; Fruit and vegetable handling trials; Postharvest loss assessment; and Fruit and vegetable expositions.
