Abstract : Arthropod pests of economic plants in Florida [cf. preceding abstract, etc.] include Selenothrips rubrocinctus (Giard), which was first reported on cacao, attacks fruit, shade and ornamental trees of many kinds and in Florida is a particular pest of mango and avocado, feeding on the leaves and fruits and causing distortion, leaf-drop and development of sooty mould. Information is given on its distribution in parts of Asia, Africa, Australasia, the Pacific islands, the Americas and the West Indies and on its appearance, economic importance and control. If chemical control is necessary, sprays containing malathion as a wettable powder at 4 lb or as a 5% emulsion concentrate at 1 US quart, ethion as a 4% emulsion concentrate at 1 US pint, dimethoate as a 2.67% emulsion concentrate at 1 US pint or as a 25% wettable powder at 1 lb, and carbaryl as an 80% wettable powder at about 1 lb/100 US gal water are recommended.
