Outbreaks and new records. Suriname. Update on fruit-fly (Dacus dorsalis) situation.

FAO Plant Protection Bulletin 38 :51

Abstract : Examination of unidentified specimens collected from Surinam in 1975 indicated that these were the same species as individuals reported in 1986 as Dacus [Bactrocera] dorsalis. Further study suggests that this is not B. dorsalis but an as yet undescribed species of the B. dorsalis complex, known only by its common name, carambola fruit fly. Its main hosts were found to be Averrhoa carambola and Syzygium samarangense, but it was also found in other fruits, including Malpighia glabra, Psidium guajava (guava), Manilkara zapota (sapodilla), Chrysophyllum cainito, Mangifera indica (mango) and Anacardium occidentale (cashew). It was also found at very low frequency in non-commercial Citrus spp.
