Abstract : Several satellite DNA probes were hybridized to restriction enzyme-digested genomic DNA of cultivars of avocado, Carica papaya and mango. Specific DNA patterns were obtained allowing identification of cultivars. A.J. Jeffreys' probe 33.15 was best for papaya and 33.6 for mango, while 22.3 was best for avocado. DNA fingerprinting was also applied to genetic analysis in avocado and papaya. In avocado a pair of linked bands and a pair of alleles were detected.
