Abstract : The Scolytid Hypocryphalus mangiferae (Stebb.), which tunnels in the woody parts of mango trees in Brazil [cf. RAE/A 17, p. 616] is the vector of the fungus Ceratocystis fimbriata, which causes the trees to wilt. The oviposition chamber is hollowed out by the female alone, though the male is continually in attendance during the operation. When several groups of adults consisting of three males or three females were confined on branches of healthy trees in the field, all the females bored into the wood and most constructed normal chambers; none of the males penetrated the branches, though a few made abortive attempts.
