Abstract : Introduced varieties of mango are under investigation at research stations in Western Samoa. To investigate the acceptability of these cultivars before being developed for commercial planting, naturally-ripened fruits of Momi K, Golek, Arumanis and Manila Super Sweet mangoes were taste- tested by Samoans, Melanesians, other Polynesians and expatriates in June 1989. The Samoans and other Polynesians preferred Arumanis, while for the Americans, Australians, New Zealanders and Melanesians preferred Manila Super Sweet. The preference of the Polynesians was opposite to that of the Melanesians and expatriates. The results may have relevance for the development of off-season mango varieties for the domestic and export markets of the South Pacific countries.
