Abstract : A bacterial disease of the mango cv. Irwin, characterized by dark brown, raised lesions on leaves and fruits, occurred in Hirara City, Miyako Island, Okinawa Prefecture in Jul. 1985. Colonies of bacteria isolated from affected leaves and bacterial ooze from mature raised lesions were white to creamy white on PSA (Wakimoto medium). Inoculation with these isolates caused leaf symptoms similar to the original ones. C. 70 bacterial characteristics were identical with those of X. campestris and the causal bacterium was identified as X. campestris pv. mangiferaeindicae, a new record for Japan.
