Abstract : Research undertaken by the institute is reported on breeding, physiology, fertilizer application, pest and disease control and postharvest handling of tropical fruits (pawpaws, mangoes, bananas, pineapples); breeding, cultivation and pests and diseases of cocoa; coconut germplasm characterization, pests and diseases, and integration of coconut culture with livestock farming; rice breeding, cultivation practices, pests, diseases and weeds and their control, and postharvest technology; vegetables (onions, lettuces, Capsicum, brassicas, tomatoes, asparagus, potatoes and soyabeans); orchids, Hibiscus, bougainvilleas, anthuriums and dried flowers; sweetcorn, maize, groundnut, cassava and soyabean cultivars; pepper [Piper], coffee and tobacco; production systems for Sahiwal-Friesian cattle; reproduction behaviour of Kedah-Kelantan and buffalo cows; sheep breeds and nutrition; poultry production; non-surgical embryo transfer in cattle; soil science; pest management; postharvest diseases of tropical fruits; plant biotechnology; mechanization of cassava, maize, vegetables, rice and tobacco production; irrigation of cocoa; rainshelters for vegetable production; food technology; adoption of technology among tobacco farmers; and fruit production for European and Middle Eastern markets.
