Abstract : The causal factors of soft-nose in mango are reviewed and the most effective long-term solution is presented. Soft-nose, tip pulp, insidious fruit rot and yeasty fruit rot are all terms for what may be the same physiological disorder of mango fruit. The reason for such a wide range of names is the independent description of the disorder by workers throughout the world. Soft-nose has long been cited as a Ca deficiency disorder and the causes and remedies for Ca deficiencies in fruit are numerous and complex. Ultimately only a full knowledge of the environmental conditions which cause the disorder, or the use of resistant cultivars, will totally prevent postharvest losses from the disorder occurring.
