Abstract : Since high mortality often occurs when material grafted in the nursery is lifted and potted, grafting in this trial was carried out on 2 sets of 4-month-old rootstocks viz. (a) conventionally nursery-grown rootstocks and (b) those raised in containers. Scions 60-, 80-, 100- or 120-days-old were used for grafting, and scion preparation is outlined. Scions were defoliated 10 days before grafting (precuring), and non-precured scions were defoliated at the time of grafting. Grafting success was higher (71.42%) with nursery-grown rootstocks than with those raised in containers (60.29%). Precured scions gave higher success (78.96%) than non-precured scions (52.75%). Success was highest (71.08%) with 100-day-old scions and lowest (62.67%) with 120-day-old scions. The mean graft survival after potting was 75.39% with precured scions and 52.28% with non-precured scions.
