Plant Protection Bulletin, FAO 22 : 72-75

Abstract : It is reported from Ghana by J.C. Gupta (pp. 72-73) that a massive outbreak of the fruit-piercing moths Achaea lienardi (Boisd.) and A. faber Holl. occurred throughout the country in April 1973, mango trees being particularly heavily attacked. About 90% of the fruits were damaged by the moths. No larvae were found, and this is taken as confirmation of earlier reports that the larvae feed on forest canopy and wild plants and that the moths migrate to fruit trees from forest areas. From India, R.M. Khan & S.K. Sharma report (pp. 74-75) that Atherigona naqvii Steyskal caused severe damage to wheat in the Sriganganagar District in 1968-69. This is stated to be the first record of this shootfly on wheat in India [but cf. RAE/A 60, 4013; 62, 1048].
