Abstract : Alternate bearing was studied in the 1983, 1984 and 1985 seasons in the mango cultivars Dabsha, Alphonse and Totapari. The average number of panicles/tree for cultivars Alphonse and Totapari was higher in the on-year than in the off-year, although the differences were small. Alternate bearing was most apparent in cv. Dabsha and least in cv. Alphonse, but neither terminal bud concentrations of endogenous growth regulators nor total leaf carbohydrate content were related to the phenomenon. In general, the leaf C/N ratio was higher in trees before their anticipated on-year than before the off-year.
