Abstract : Freshly extracted stones of mango cultivars Samar Bahisht, Anwar Rataul, Malda, Langra and Dusehri were sown on 30 July 1986 at the Ayub Agricultural Research Institute, Faisalabad. Plants of these cultivars were T-grafted with Samar Bahisht and Langra on 16 Aug. 1987, at which time seedling height, girth and mean number of leaves/plant were measured. Rootstock girth was divided into 3 grades: 0.41-0.95 cm (I), 0.96-1.20 cm (II) and 1.21-1.88 cm (III). Highest germination % (65.7%), seedling height (67.9 cm), seedling girth (1.2 cm) and mean number of leaves/plant (57) were obtained with Samar Bahisht. Grafting success was greatest with Anwar Rataul for Samar Bahisht scions (55.5%) and with Malda for Langra scions (83.9%). Grafting success increased with increasing girth of the rootstock. Grade II rootstocks gave 83.23% success compared with 48.39% for grade II and 14.65% for grade I. The Anwar Rataul rootstock induced greatest length (8.40 cm) and total scion wood (0.93 cm³) in the Samar Bahisht scion while the greatest girth was induced by the Samar Bahisht rootstock. In the Langra scion, greatest length (27.1 cm), girth (0.8 cm) and total scion wood production (3.2 cm³) were induced by the Langra rootstock.
